
Ecological Farm Internship
Field Good Farms is a small ecological vegetable farm which operates on a beautiful 100 acre farm in Cache Bay, Ontario (4 hours North of Toronto).
We cultivate 5 acres for vegetable production, which includes 3 crop greenhouses, 1 seedling greenhouse, 2 caterpillar tunnels and field production.
Tasks:
The Ecological Farm Intern will work alongside the Field Good Team on vegetable production performing tasks which include:
Planting, weeding, harvesting, processing, and general clean-up and maintenance duties.
They will also lead ecological farm projects, including:
Caring for and maintaining natural wind blocks.
Sowing and maintaining plants for beneficial insect/animal habitat.
Using no-till/low-till production methods for both perennial and annual crops.
Experience:
An interest in any of the following fields is an asset: arboriculture, ecological agriculture, restoration agriculture, environmental restoration, or horticulture.
The successful candidate will be available to work 35 hours per week starting May 9, 2022 for a period of 25 consecutive weeks.
We are looking for someone who is respectful, efficient, has a great team spirit, and is happy to spend time outdoors doing hard work.
Other requirements:
The successful candidate will wear appropriate work clothes and be able to provide their own transportation to get to the farm, which is located in a rural area.
This position is conditional upon funding approval through an Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada grant. In order to qualify, the candidate must indicate that they meet the following requirements:
Between the ages of 15 and 30 inclusive when the project started
Unemployed or underemployed. Underemployed includes:
Students or individuals who are currently employed and are taking on significantly greater responsibilities and complexity in their employment duties or more hours of work during the project.
Those who are occupying a position for which they are overqualified, as per their education.
A Canadian citizen, permanent resident of Canada or a refugee under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
Not in receipt of Employment Insurance during the work term
Applications from youth facing barriers will be prioritized. This includes youth who are:
Indigenous,
visible minorities,
recent immigrants (within 5 years),
living in a low income household,
a single parent,
residing in a remote location,
an early school leaver.
Funding may be available for expenses related to addressing barriers. These expenses could include critical transportation, relocation, assistance with dependents, accommodation needs, etc.
Pay rate:
$ 17.00 / hour
